1. How to Get a Job in Tech

As tech giants, Apple, Facebook and Google continue to solidify their spot at the top, the desire amongst young professionals become stronger. Many can say that they only dream of one day being able to work for these ground shaking companies. The question is: What do you have to do to get there?

This infograhic found on the Masters Degree site show us some stats on what we may need to do in order to get there. Generally, the thought of being an engineer of some sort may be a shoe in. But what if you don’t have an engineering degree? What other areas could you excel in, enough to land a dream job at one of the three companies? The infographic breaks it down for you. One of the reasons why I chose this graphic is because it seems to be merely telling us that, while schooling plays a major part, the engineering or IT diploma is not always the route you need to take. Check out the graphic for the other specialized areas that these three companies hire for.

2. iPhone 5 and Who’s Most Likely to Upgrade

Apple has announced an event they’ll be hosting this coming Tuesday, October 4th. They’ll be unveiling the highly anticipated ‘iPhone 5′. I, personally, am super excited and eager to see what it may look like. Quite honestly, I’ll be pretty disappointed if it’s merely just an ‘iPhone 4GS’ version, so will millions of others. This graphic from Paid Viewpoint has broken down the release of the iPhone 5 and who all are willing to upgrade and pick up the new release. An interesting fact from the graphic: “46% of iPhone owners are intending to upgrade within six months of its release.” This is telling me Apple’s upcoming release of the iPhone 5 just may be the biggest launch of iPhones that Apple has ever seen. That is scary. On the other hand, a note to all Apple stock shareholders: Congrats! Success! …I wish I was you.

3. Twacked – When Good Twitter Accounts Go Bad

If you’ve paid any attention to the news, you may have seen some of the celebrity and major news Twitter accounts that have been hacked by The Script Kiddiez. Honestly, I think it’s pretty hilarious that they’re doing what they’re doing. It’s a bit shocking to see the things they come up with. Veracode put together this infographic to commemorate all the big stars and major news accounts (i.e. – Justin Beiber, Fox News and USA Today) on their ‘twacked’ tweets. Funny thing: “When Justin Beiber’s friend’s account got hacked, they took Beiber’s phone number. In turn, Beiber then found the hacker’s phone number and tweeted it to his 4.5M followers. As a result, the ‘hacker’ received over 26,000 text messages.” I do not have ‘Beiber fever’, but that is just down right hilarious. Nice one, Justin!

4. MIT Media Lab

With technology advancing so fast, it’s a bit much to keep up. What’s even more brain racking, is the process is how technology advances. The MIT Media Lab is considered one of the best at putting together some of the two most dissimilar groups and catering to their collaborative efforts in order to produce some of today’s finest technologies. A reason as to why I like this graphic by Online PhD is the cleanliness, as it pertains to the heavily complex information, visualized in a simple format, but still very detailed and organized. The MIT Media Lab is continuously innovating at a high level in hopes that their achievements in research will soon be a path that many can follow.

5. Caffeine Blast

//

As an avid drinker of coffee, I wanted to end this post off with this past week’s National Coffee Day. On Thursday, September 29th, many big brand coffee companies and local coffee shops were giving away free cups of their own delicious coffee to commemorate this day. I’m sure many coffee addicts were thinking, “Yes! I don’t have to pay for this one!” Seeing as they probably stop by their coffee shop of choice at least twice a day.

As “3 out 5 Americans who drink coffee say they need it to start their day”, I could only imagine how busy all the baristas were. I know my local coffee shop was a bit chaotic that morning (it took me 10 minutes to get my coffee as to the usual 2 minutes). Live Science designed this great infographic to honor National Coffee Day by throwing in those delicious cups of coffee to subliminally tell us that we need more. In fact, it’s about that time for another cup, so I’m out of here!

I’ll leave all you with this: “If you kill the joe, you make some mo’!” – Terry Tate. Here’s a clip of the office linebacker in action. Just watch the first 35 seconds and you’ll know what I mean.
